How would you like to spend the spring and summer working at a National Trust property, garden or coastline? We can offer a fantastic variety of seasonal job contracts working either full or part-time at our properties between March and October when they open their doors to the public.
Across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, we care for some of the country’s most beautiful town and country mansion houses, nature reserves, gardens, coast and countryside for everyone to visit and enjoy.
Every year in spring, many of our properties re-open their doors to welcome visitors after a winter break. And during the busiest period between March and October our popular shops, restaurants, homes and gardens could do with a little extra help.
Whether you’d like to join us as a Visitor Reception Assistant, a Chef or Catering Assistant, a Plant Sales Assistant or Gardener, we’ll have a seasonal job opportunity that is right for you. We have both full and part-time opportunities, and many positions need no previous experience.
Our nationally acclaimed 3-year paid training programme, Careership, will put you firmly on the first step of a gardening or wardening career with the National Trust. Limited places for this highly sought-after programme are advertised each year in April.

A number of our roles are available on a job-share basis – a flexible and practical working option here at the Trust.
Our part-time jobs come in all shapes and sizes. Some of our part-time roles are offered on an annualised hours basis – where you’ll work a certain number of hours over the course of a year; so that although your weekly hours vary to suit the seasonal highs and lows in demand, your salary level remains the same throughout the year.
Whether based at our Central Office in Swindon, a Regional Office, or one of our hundreds of properties, you’ll find an immense variety of full-time career opportunities. Our standard full-time hours are 37.5 hours a week.
A great variety of flexible working patterns are offered which all staff can discuss at any time with their manager. We also acknowledge that some parents and employees may have carer responsibilities, and have a statutory right to make such a request and for any such request to be given careful consideration. Flexible options include compressed working weeks (full-time hours over fewer days); flexitime (variable start and finish times); home working, job sharing, part-time work (working fewer hours each day or working a shorter week); staggered or annualised hours (eg working for 10 months of the year).
If your role is territory-based and you have to travel regularly as part of your job, then a home working option may be open to you. To help reduce our carbon emissions, where appropriate, we will also consider home working on an occasional basis.
Whilst normal retirement age is 65, we will consider requests from staff who wish to continue working beyond this age.
