Career development

How would we describe working with the National Trust? Well it depends who you ask, and because we’re different things to different people, there’s one phrase that keeps cropping up: an adventure. An enjoyable, learning, exciting, rewarding adventure. Some have called it a journey of discovery. We want you to love what you do, whatever it is that you’re doing. And we’ll help you get better at it too, with training, support and development. If you want to study for professional qualifications relevant to your area of work, we’ll give you all the practical help we can. But before we jump too far ahead, let’s talk about getting you started. To help you find your National Trust feet, we've a handy ‘e-induction' programme. Using video and all kinds of interactive wizardry, it'll help you get to grips with what we do and how we work.

Once you’re settled, we’ll start working on your Personal Development Programme. Tailored to you and your needs, the programme will identify where you'd like training and where you see your career going – and understandably, how we'll help you get there. We appreciate that when it comes to learning, one size never fits all. We each learn in different ways and respond to different styles. It’s what works for you, whether that’s on-the-job training, flexible e-learning or more formal workshops. And, if at any point in your National Trust career you feel like trying something new, you can also think about a secondment, something we positively encourage.
